A brief history and description of how Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran lived and participated in the freedom struggle and also in the social movement that has been written in English by Mr. Thangaraju in the phone id 🙁 9443090768—goldking 59 ) , is forwarded with comments :
Though it may be true that Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran had worked for the Oppressed people, it is entirely out of place for the writer’s attempted portrayal of Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as Dalit leader, especially written and posted it on the DKV community people WhatsApp group , just on the day of his Gurupooja.
The writer’s attempted intention is to clearly project Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as Dalit leader, in that much of descriptions of Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran’s social and political activities have been patently directed by the writer to be concentrated on the prevelance of Untouchability, fighting against the Upper caste , abolition of double tumbler system etc, and the his association with the Dalit leader, Dr. Ambedkar— obviously portraying Thiyagi Imanuel Sekaran as a leader who had worked only for Untouchability, thereby clearly showing Thiyagi Imanuel Sekaran as a Dalit leader .
This kind of efforts to portray Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as a Dalit leader, by deliberately focusing on the untouchability and fighting against the upper caste at this stage is completely unwarranted and unnecessary, and it should be thrown off with all the contempt it that deserves.
When the entire Devendra Kula Vellalar community people are fighting for the removal of the imposed, insulting, agonising, stigmatised SC / Dalit / Harijan identity, and moving back to our original status of Backward Class category , why this kind of seemingly attempted portrayal of Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as a Dalit leader is being written and posted on the DKV community’s WhatsApp group.
This is nothing short of malicious attempt to portray Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as a Dalit leader, and there seems to be a motive behind such writing.
When the writer has mentioned in one place respectably about one community as ” Arunthatiars ” why the same courtesy has not been shown to the other community and, instead, he mentioned the other Dalit community as ” Parayar ” and what prevented him from mentioning in the new name as Adi – Dravidars, which clearly shows the intentions and background of the writer.
It must be noted that Devendra Kula Vellalar community itself is a higher caste which has the history of having ruled the kingdom of Chera, Chola, Pandiyas, and not at all related to the traditional untouchable Class.
The deliberate attempt on the part of the writer to stereotype and equate this great Devendra Thiru kula Pallar of the Backward Class with the lineage of the great rulers of Chera, Chola, Pandiyas — should be condemned in all possible manner by the Original and Pure – Blooded Devendra Kula Vellalar community people.
Our great leader Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran is the Icon of this great Devendra Kula Vellalar community people, and not the Dalit icon as is being attempted to be projected; and Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran sacrificed his life for the people of this great DKV community people.
WhatsApp group administrator may have a strict monitoring mechanism to prevent any such attempt to project Thiyagi Immanuvel Sekaran as a Dalit leader.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today the Day of Remembrance……
A Great Legend Memorable Day….* *September,11,2018*
On behalf of Our Beloved Association, I am dedicating Thiyaki Immanuvel Sekaran’s Write Up :
Mr. Immanuel Sekaran, the DKV icon is a crusader for social justice, freedom fighter, reformer and above all a martyr who sacrificed his life for the sake of the oppressed class people.
Mr. Immanuel Sekaran was born on 9.10.1924 at Sellur village, Paramakudi TK in Ramanathapuram district as an eldest son to Mr. Vedanayagam – Mrs. Gnanasoundari, a teacher couple. He had his early education from his father at Sellur. After that he stayed/studied a TELC school at Paramakudi till fifth standard. He studied higher education at Ramanathapuram, Schwarz High School. He was also a best football player during school life.
Mr. Immanuel Sekaran started to raise his voice for Indian Independence at a very young age. At the age of 18, continuing the activity he has participated in the “Quit India” movement against the British regime and imprisoned for three-month sentence.
Subsequently, he married a primary school teacher from the village of Ethampadal, Smt Maragatham Grace. They had four children.
1. Mary Vasantha Rani
2. Papin Vijaya Rani
3. Sundari Prabha Rani
4.Jhansi Rani.
He was Mr. Perumal Peter’s schoolmate and later joined social work with him. In the year 1945 he joined Indian Army as Hawilthar Major. Though he was knew many languages, he had specifically qualified to speak and write in seven languages, including English, Hindi, Urdu and Russian language too.
It is significant to note here that Thekkampatti Mr. Balasundaraj was our Social reformer of our community, who has invited Dr B R Ambedkar to participate in an important event of the Devendra Kula Vellalar Sangam conference held at Madurai on 29.12.1946. Mr. Perumal Peter and Mr. Immanuel Sekaran were the main organizers of the meeting.
Mr. Immanuel Sekaran resigned his military service and engaged himself in the direct social struggles in the year 1951. In 1953, the oppressed youth movement was formed and he started social liberation struggles, not only the Devendra Kula Vellalar community but to all the oppressed communities who lived in southern Districts, the Parayar, Arunthathiyar and other oppressed classes.
On the birthday of Dr.Ambedkar, he organized a memorable function along with all oppressed communities in Ramanathapuram and conducted a remarkable conference. In the conference itself he passed resolution for Widows remarriage, women’s education and their empowerment. He used to meet people in the field, wood cutting place, and agricultural fields and explained about their rights and empowerment from the clutches of the so called upper caste. He went to villages and educated them to oppose untouchability by the upper caste people.
At that time there is no light in the streets and therefore he continued to organize people with the help of lanterns. It is a pity that our present leaders are not at all interested to start a people movement in the rural areas. He staged many street plays and dramas to make the people understand the real empowerment. We have to learn many things from this great leader Mr. Immanuel Sekaran.
On 26.5.1954, he was arranged meeting to eradicate the double tumbler system.
On 2.10.1956, he organized the political equality movement with the participation of the oppressed people in conference at Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram District.
On 06/12/1956, on the death of Dr B R Ambedkar, Mr. Immanuel Sekaran has arranged a meeting to mourn the demise of the great leader on behalf of all oppressed class community people. At this point of time he emerged as an outstanding leader of the oppressed communities. The people in and around Paramakudi and Ramanathapuram were able to raise their voice and prepared to face the any type of attacks. Due to this resistance and counter attacks opposing the atrocities by the upper castes, the rioting and arson which was the order of the day were stopped.
Because of mallar force, the other oppressed communities like Paraiyar, Arundhatiyar, Nadar, and Konar too had resisted the attacks. Their children could not go to School by telling their caste. All the oppressed class people had accepted Mr. Immanuel Sekaran as their leader.
Poovaishiya Indirakula Sangam founder Sri Perumal Peter had associated with Immanuel Sekaran. After seeing such a brave and courageous leader in Mr. Immanuel Sekaran, Sri Kamaraj Chief Minister, Sri Kakkan, minister for Police have approached Immanuel Sekaran to ensure normalcy in the southern area and to end caste clash. He has cooperated in all the way to bring peace to this area. But it is a disgrace that these leaders could not stop the gruesome murder of the legend though they had power to do so.
Mr. Immanuel Sekaran was a great social reformer, fighter against untouchability and fought for removal of social stigma prevalent at that time.
We are remembering September 11 because of the services of this great leader.
Because of Sri Jeevan Kumar Malla’s efforts and cordial relationship with north Indian leaders from across the country had already arrived at Madurai to pay their respect to the great leader’s 61st commemoration day on September 11, 2018 at Paramakudi in large numbers.
I request one and all to please march on to Paramakudi to pay respect to the great leader….
With Regards
Thangaraju
